RROMA GA

On the 12-th of April 2012, RROMA held its annual assembly in Kratovo. On this meeting, the GA accepted the narrative report for 2011, as well the financial report for 2011. One of the discussion points was the intention of RROMA to create branches in the communities were the organization acts. The youth is looking forward for this, as RROMA gave a period of 18 months for them to prepare themselves for such responsibilities. It is also a period for RROMA to see in which kind of direction the youth is going.

Another point of the discussion was the revision of the strategy of RROMA around September 2012. Also, new members were selected to the board that control the work of RROMA.

The annual program for 2012 was also accepted by the GA. Below are some of the documents relevant for the GA.

Младите Ромки вклучени во кампања за зајакнување на гласот на Ромската жена

На 30.11.2011 беше објавено дека Ромската Регионална Образовна Младинска Асоцијација од Кратово, заедно со своите партнери РАА-Албанија, ЕРГО-Белгија, Интегро-Бугарија и Едром-Турција се добитници на грант за зајакнување на жената поддржан од ИПА-програмата на Европската комисија.

РРОМА заедно со своите партнери ќе спроведуваат две-годишна кампања за зајакнување на Ромската жена во општеството. Конкретно, во Македонија РРОМА својата кампања ќе ја спроведува во општините Штип, Велес, Кочани, Виница, Берово, заедно со Пехчево и Црник.

Базирајќи се на својот пристап на креативно истражување со употреба на веб 2.0 алатки, РРОМА ќе се концентрира на проблеми како што се: Слободата на избор кај Ромските девојки, Полова еднаквост внатре во Ромските семејства, Семејно и насилство во врска, малолетнички бракови, учество на Ромките во јавниот живот, планирање на семејство и стапката на вработеност кај Ромските жени.

Проектот започна со фаза на подготовка, во која што ќе бидат креирани локални фокус групи за работа, чии што капацитети ќе бидат подигнати со обуки. Новост е што секоја фокус група ќе биде водена од т.н. Агентка на промена, која воедна треба да биде пример и мотивација за другите. Агентките на промена се членки на РРОМА, кои што веќе поминале низ одреден вид на обуки и ќе им помагаат на локалните фокус групи.

Официјално кампањата ќе започне на 1.Јуни, 2012 во Брисел, каде што младите Ромки од Македонија заедно со останатите партнери ќе имаат средби и активности со личности од Европските институции.

РРОМА својата кампања ќе ја започне со истражување за стапката на вработеност кај Ромската жена и половата еднаквост во Ромските семејства. Паралелно, со тоа ќе има и дигитална кампања која што ќе се вика „ Јас реагирам ...“.

"Migration Never Stops" in Macedonia

Starting from the 19-th of February, youngsters from Macedonia, the Czech republic, Serbia and Germany came together for the second encounter of the international youth project "Migration Never Stops". The project is supported by the Europeans for Peace program of the foundation EVZ and the Youth In Action program of the European Commission.

This international youth project intents to investigate stories of (Roma) migration in all its facets in the past and present. Why did people want to migrate or under which circumstances were they forced to? What was the impact of migration on the lives, culture and identity of people? We believe that migration is a strong reflection of the human rights situation in a country. Why did this happen in the past, especially in the last 100 years, and why does this still happen today?

The participants came together and started to work in their working groups: video, audio, web and comics. Their research of personal stories and history and their personal impressions were documented and will be upload on the blog, the web group created:

The groups also had the change to speak with Roma that work in the local municipalities and visit the only Roma municipality in Europe, Suto Orizari. In Suto Orizari, part of the group went to a meeting with the mayor Elvis Bajram, while part of them went to the Center of Skopje to prepare for the flash mob called "The Knot".

By the end of the encounter the participants organized their own exhibition were some of the work they did was presented.

The second meeting ended on the 26-th of February and the third meeting will be in the Czech republic, additionallly the work will be presented in the ternype memorial conference around the 2-nd of August 2012.

Advance planning meeting for the project "Migration Never Stops"

Representatives from RROMA, Slovo 21 (Czech), EHO (Serbia) and Amaro Drom (Germany) met in Probistip to discuss and prepare the details for the encounter of the project "Migration Never Stops".

The meeting was held in the Hotel "San Niko" from the 20-th of Januay till the 22-nd of January 2012.

On this meeting, the representatives of the partner organizations discuss the agenda, venue, procedures for safety of the participants, as well the travel dates, working conditions of the 4 groups (video, comic, audio and web), as well what kind of equipment each group will need.

It was agreed, if the weather condition won't allow it to have the meeting from the 12-th until the 19-th of February to ask for a short postponing. And to have the meeting from the 19-th till the 26-th of February 2012.

RROMA wishes a lot of success to Bethany Weymer

RROMA's Peace Corps Volunteer Bethany Weymer has finished her service at the RROMA office and is going back to the US.

RROMA would thank her for the dedication and efforts, as well help in managing all the tasks during her stay in Kratovo, Macedonia.

All the youth and RROMA team wishes her a safe flight back and good luck in the new challenges that she might face in the near future.

„Сидата не знае да дискриминира!“ – Голем хепенинг во Кратово

Во сабота на 11.06.2011 година во општина Кратово се одржа манифестацијата „Staying Alive 2011“. Организатор на овој настан беше здружението Регионална Ромска Образовна Младинска Асоцијација од Кратово, а покровител фондацијата MTV Staying Alive од Лондон и локалната самоуправа на општина Кратово.

Граѓаните на општина Кратово имаа можност да бидат дел од првиот флеш-моб организиран од страна на РРОМА, но исто така и да ја проследат богатата културно-уметничка програма пред платото на Домот на Кулутрата во Кратово, за потоа да бидат дел од музичките настапи на D’Fender’s, Dj Fero и Dj Meshko.

20 ученички од првоодделение при О.У. „Кочо Рацин“ од Кратово имаа можност да ги покажаат своите манекенски вештини пред насобраните граѓани, носејќи парчиња облека дизајнирана од студентите на Технолошкиот факултет во Пробиштип, отсек моден дизајн. Исто така, членките на РРОМА носеа традиционална облека, која што го отсликуваше културнотот шаренило на Република Македонија.

Граѓаните уживаа и во претставата „Конецот“ креирана од страна на членовите на РРОМА. Но, исто така имаа можност да чујат факти и да добијат информации од штандот што наликуваше на кондом околу тоа како да се заштитат од ХИВ вирусот.

Манифестацијата го одбележи крајот на 12-месечниот проект на РРОМА со наслов „Сидата не знае да дискриминира ... Заштитете се!“, но исто така означи и продолжување на истиот проект за уште 3 години со поддршка од страна на MTV Staying Alive Foundation.

ROMA-lution - Our way of empowerment!

RROMA started with the implementation of the project funded by OSI-Budapest. The project aims to develop the capacities of 20 young Roma girls from Vinica, Veles, Kocani, Stip and Berovo by providing them training in the field of new media, creative action research and conducting questionnaires on topics such as early marriages and the importance of education for change. Having conducted a research in the five communities about the aforementioned topics, the group of Roma girls will produce a short film about issues of education and early marriages, which will be presented to the public in order to stir a public debate.

GA of RROMA

On the 28-th of February 2011 in Kratovo, the Regional Roma Educational Youth Association organized the second GA of the organization. On this meeting the results from 2010 were presented, both financial and narrative report. Also, in accordance with the new law for Associations and Foundations, GA members voted for acceptance of the changes made in the Statut of the organization and for acceptance of new members in the GA.

RROMA has a new team member

Starting from yesterday, the 29-th of November 2010, Bethany Weymer a young Peace Corps Volunteer joined the RROMA executive team. Bethany has a degree in Anthropology. She is 25 year old, full with energy and ready to share her experience with the rest of the youth of RROMA, but also to learn about youth empowerment and mobilization. She will be working with RROMA for two years. RROMA wishes her officially a warm welcome and hope that she will have a great time working with us.

RROMA attended the MTV SAF training in London

RROMA was part of the training organized by the MTV Staying Alive Foundation in London. Facilitators of this training were the cool Gents and Ladies from Restless Development. We are really thankful for their sessions and time.

The Participants

The participants of this training were from Bangladesh, Poland, Russia, Pakistan, India, Egypt and of course Macedonia.

We had the opportunity to learn and share our experience on Organizational planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Financial Management, Fundraising and Partnerships, Media and Marketing.

It was great to recap and learn something new about M&E tools, development of log frames, data-flow diagrams etc. Also, to get to know your donor and prepare yourself ahead.

We had the chance to watch a documentary called "Me, myself and HIV", as SAF grantees were the first to have a look at it. Some quote from the documentary "If you are positive, be positive, If you are negative, don't be negative!"

The last evening before our departure we attended a Reception in honor of all SAF grantees. At this reception we met SAF staff members, as well board members and donors. We had the chance to talk to all of them.

We left London with a lot of new experience and new friendships. We are glad to have met all of the wonderful people there.

The most important thing that we learn from the training ... planning, planning and always plan ahead.

RROMA creative methods and campaigning training

From the 8-th until the 10-th of October, RROMA was having a training in Prilep about creative methods and campaigning. The youth had the chance to learn about campaigning, why campaign and how, and also to practice campaigning.

Their creativity was challenged by RROMA's team through various exercises as for example to create a logo for their awareness campaign by using only 10 coins, a piece of paper, their mobile phone and a pen.

The youth had a lot of fun and through fun and learning, we manage to create a logo, our creative actions for our campaign, to create our first video footages for our campaign videos and our campaign materials.

Starting from the 1-st of December 2010 (World Aids Day) you will have a chance to see and be part of the RROMA actions. Enjoy in some of the photos! ;)

Researching the Roma communities ...

In the frame of the MTV SAF project, RROMA's coordinators collected data on HIV awareness in the municipalities of Kratovo, Probistip, Kocani, Veles Berovo and Vinica. All these communities are situated in the North-east region of Macedonia. Since, there was no data before, RROMA started to assess the knowledge in this region and to create the necessary data itself by doing a survey. 600 surveys have been printed out and given to Miki, Merlin and Bilent to proceed them. Each of them did 200 surveys.

This method helps RROMA to create a data, which has been not created before and up-date it on regular basis by having the RROMA youth doing researches, surveys, questionnaires etc.

Coordinators of the MTV SAF project

We are collecting data in order to present it to the officials in order having them to react and prevent before it is too late. In this way, we are also promoting Roma youth as agents of change.

All the surveys have been returned to the RROMA office and data-processing has started. We will keep you up-dated with the findings of the research.
